  • SummerDance, Chicago's long-running outdoor dance party, will play host to Derrick Carter and a few other prominent house jocks this summer. The series, presented by the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (or DCASE), is a summertime fixture that takes place downtown at the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park, with free admission open to anyone. The events happen on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, and a huge range of musical styles are offered, primarily coming from live bands; house DJs are sometimes booked to share their sounds on the open-air, 100% recycled dance floor, but they've been pretty scarce in recent summers. The DJs billed for this season are all previous guests, each having played the series years ago. A full schedule for SummerDance 2015 hasn't been revealed, but three dates have been announced which house heads will likely want to mark on their calendar. Marshall Jefferson will play the Friday, July 10th event, and the following Friday has both DJ Pierre and Phuture on hand. Saturday, August 22nd will see Carter take to the decks. Details for these parties were revealed alongside plans for a Chicago Cultural Center exhibit called Move Your Body: The Evolution of House Music, which opened last week (a concert at the Pritzker Pavilion marked its start) and will remain open until mid-August. They follow on from a run of Wired Fridays that ended a few weeks ago.
