  • Dark Entries will issue an LP of '80s cassette material from Severed Heads man Tom Ellard next month. Ellard has long been a cornerstone of Australia's experimental music scene, and 2014 has already seen a couple of Severed Heads reissues: Medical Records put out mid-'80s LPs Since The Accident and City Slab Horror back in June, while July saw Dark Entries release the best-known Severed Heads tune, "Dead Eyes Opened." Now, Dark Entries are shining the light on Ellard's solo output. The 80s Cheesecake LP pulls together material from two cassettes released in 1982: 80s Cheesecake and Snappy Carrion. Some of the material has been collected for reissue before, most notably on Vinyl-On-Demand's exhaustive Adenoids 1977-1985 boxset. The material has also been put out digitally and on CD by Ellard himself. (Dark Entries say this was his response to finding one of his cassettes selling for an "absurd amount of money on eBay"). The 80s Cheesecake LP features remastered versions of most tracks that appeared on the two original cassettes, as well as some recently-completed material Ellard first conceived in the early '80s. Each copy comes with a fold-out poster containing press clippings and liner notes. The LP's first track, "Anthem 82," was recently used by Joy Orbison to open his BBC Essential Mix.
