The veteran experimental artist will make a very rare trip to the US for two gigs.
Finnish arch experimentalist Mika Vainio has two US live dates confirmed for this month.
Vainio is a prolific and intensely focused artist perhaps best known as a member of the legendary, now-defunct outfit Pan Sonic. These days he stays pretty busy: his releases over the last twelve months or so include the solo albums Kilo and Konstellaatio (the latter coming under his Ø alias), as well as collaborative LPs with Joachim Nordwall, Stephen O'Malley and most recently Arne Deforce, to go with an official recording of a 2009 Pan Sonic show.
US performances are extremely rare for Vainio, and just two are on the schedule for the latter half of this month. First up, this Saturday, is a set at Substrata 1.4 in Seattle—the festival actually starts tonight, and other guests across the four-day event include Markus Guentner and Mountains' Koen Holtkamp. Then, next Friday the 25th, Vainio will be in Los Angeles to play a Mount Analog show at Complex also featuring Tempe, Arizona noise group Marshstepper.
