Chakra - Doors

  • Chakra have been responsible for some quality productions in the past, namely the impressive "Home" and "I Am" that appeared in the late 90's. They return on Lost Language with another vocal number, "Doors", which uses the vocal talents of Kate Cameron. Can they provide another quality production to their already impressive list of works? The Original Mix is a peak time record with a driving baseline and epic synths. I can't help but feel the vocals are quite weak in comparison with the previous works of Chakra as mentioned earlier. The track follows a similar pattern with no real surprises and for me falls short of the standards they have set in the past. The Space Brothers Dub on the flip uses minimal, if any, of the actually vocals but is still as epic as the original. There is a good use of the vocal however, with a stuttering looped snippet of the vocal used as a highlight of the production, especially deep into the track where everything is let loose, the epic synths, melodies and vocal sample. A very late set record sure to raise the energy a notch or two. Overall a impressive but slightly disappointing return for Chakra. When listening to their past tracks, you can't help but feel that they have not really taken a step forward or backward with this release. It will work for some im sure, but for me it lacks a real cutting edge.
