- Many names have impressed on the progressive house circuit in the last year or two, but there is no doubting that Cass – through his production and DJ’ing work, is near the top of those impressive names. Cass first came to the forefront with his groundbreaking production “Perception” with Pete “Slide” Martin. His production work since has been very impressive but there is no doubting that the boy can mix! And as such, he has been acclaimed for his recent DJ sets, even though he has been DJ’ing since his teenage years in our very own city. His latest mix release (which has followed mixes on his old psy-trance label, Flying Rhino) is called Fire, and is an impressive double CD showcase of the immense talent at that label.
CD 1 includes impressive cuts such as Tom Mangan’s mix of Cass’s “The Trader”, a weird and electro set opener. Cass/Slide Vs. Meat Katie’s mix of Ben Shaw’s “So Strong” is another highlight of the flowing nature of the first CD. Australia’s very own Phil Smart and Jamie Stephens provide a remix of Cass’s “Genesis” while the CD finishes on a progressive note with “Sunscape” by Excession Vs. Ben Shaw.
CD 2 lifts the pace a bit and includes highlights such as Yunus’ “70 Watts”. Jimmy Van M, Cass & Slide remix Sasha with “Lupus”, a journey of a track in itself. Australian Andy Page and Lee Burridge supply an incredible melodic number with “Maladjusted”. Andy Page features again under the guise ASAP with his Top Gun like tune entitled “Firebird”. The mix ends superbly with a vocal breakbeat record by PB & J feat. Hannah Dorsey called “the Way”.
Overall, another solid release for the year, and a perfect showcase for a fast moving label. It’s superbly mixed by a DJ that continues to demand respect. Cass for Nubreed – Hell Yes!!
