Andi Teichmann - Refaded EP

  • Last year Andi Teichmann released his debut LP 'Fades' which, owing to its half-tempo rhythms and indie-pop sensibilities, faded right past me. The few danceable tracks were good, but there weren't enough of them. Now Festplatten have handed the masters to the remixers… Brother Hannes Teichmann takes 'They Don't Care' into slinkier surroundings with fairylight blips and equally short bass stabs in a key both sweet and warm. In comes Hans Foster's vocals, chopped into phrases and looped, and pads which make the 'Romantica' title appropriate. Strident synth bolts accompany the verse proper before it winds up, successfully bridging song and track. The languid hues of 'Tape' are brazenly shown the floor in Ada's mix. Parched analogue chunks bounce beside the necessary drums, augmented with well-placed woodblock pops. Aside from Foster's vocal, doused in processors until it leaves puddles, this could be lifted from her Blondie LP, which is indeed a compliment. The mood is brought down for Dubmasta's 'Endscapes' redub, deceptively opening with clunky new-wave guitar and keyboard patterns but fading to reveal delay-infused aqueous drips, digital seagulls and plenty of grey atmosphere. A loud but limping one-two drum thunders in but doesn't threaten the otherwise Scape-esque ambiance. Also included are ten loops cut from the original by Andi Teichmann ranging from beats to arcade noise, but it's the Ada that wins out.
