- Trance and electro are two of the trendiest sounds in underground dance music, and few people bring them together as playfully as Liverpool's Alien Izz. On her new EP Alien Spectrum Disorder, she emphasises the brightest side of each genre. "Unmasking" is probably the best track, a bold and vibrant electro cut with Northern Exposure-like synths and clammy vocal snippets, somewhere between sexy and silly. Brilliant sounds—glissando synths, disco-funk guitar, menacing basslines—are layered beautifully, never jostling for attention but rather coalescing into a flaky, croissant-like whole. It takes real finesse to build a track like this.
