Dreadzone - King Dub Rock

  • King Dub Rock is the follow up single to Dreadzone's highly infectious "Once Upon A Time (In Jamaica)", the title single to the group's sixth artist album. As they've shown time and time again, Dreadzone fuse together the sounds of reggae, dub and dancehall with the sounds and production techniques of breakbeat with vocalist Earl 16 dropping his trademark ragga shouts. On remix duties Tom Real & Rogue Element return the favour for Dreadzone's remix of Just Bash Out which was released earlier in the year. Side A. Original Mix Opening up with a rich concoction of breaks and bongos (and what is a ragga tune without lots of percussion nowadays?), King Dub Rock is a jump up skankin tune with elements of off-beat keyboard stabs, a funky guitar lick and a melodic bassline with reggae styled horn arrangements on top. The MC gives one out to the crowd with shouts of "Are you ready? In the party! 'Ow we feelin?". It's definitely a warm up tune and wouldn't sound out of place at a crowded beach party and they emphasise this with crowd noises dropped in for good measure. Side B. Tom Real & Rogue Element Remix Known for their peaktime dancefloor oriented as displayed on tunes like High Noon and Just Bash Out, Tom Real & Rogue Element go for a much calmer sound while still keeping tings gwan on de dancefloor. The drum beats get pumped up as well as the bassline which gets transformed into a new melody as the pair add a plethora of techy and electro stabs. I'm not too big on this remix though, however it would certainly suit some moods for the dancefloor.
