Labelle - Éclat

  • Classical composition infused with rhythms of the Indian Ocean.

  • Hailing from the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean, Labelle bridges the gap between classical orchestras and meditative electronics. Written for a string quartet, the title track off his forthcoming album (produced by Hector Plimmer) draws on traditional maloya music from his hometown, as well as atmospheric ambient. The complimentary energies between the staccato synths and poignant strings remind me of Jon Hassell's electroacoustic Fourth World style, while Plimmer's atmospherics add an experimental, almost jazzy touch.
