Bass Rokwell - South Amerikan FyreFlies

  • What ever happened to those fucked up sounds of Tribal music you wonder? Well, after 2002, people realized they didn’t want to feel sleazy anymore, and they simply wanted to funk it out and return to the ‘80s again…well, everyone, but DJ Style and his label Knob Records it seems. Nothing funky here; it’s all about the dark and dirty with Bass Rokwell’s South Amerikan FyreFlies. Original is trippy, dark, and scary; can or will people still dance to this I wonder? Probably not, and apart of me thinks that might be a good thing because who knows what kind of person can groove to this on the dancefloor. This isn’t dance music at all, it’s sleazy electronic music and I love it! Part of me thinks Bass Rokwell is a maniac sociopath; how can something create sounds like this and get away with it? Ghostly vocals sway themselves, creating an eerie score of a haunting house. While the synth line swinging back and forth, like a jagged little pill, not everyone, if really, just anyone can take this is one swallow. It’s a track that searches for death, proper drug music to be honest. Style & Zor Remix runs with a more danceable tribal version with its four-to-the-floor rhythm. Still dark and nasty, the bass line gets a tweaked just slightly, making you feel like your losing your mind. Initially, I was a bit hesitate with this release, it has grown on me, and anyone searching for sounds that epitomize the darkest of hours from Danny Tenaglia, Steve Lawler, or John Digweed, this is for you. Style & Zor Beatz is thick and heavy with that drum kicks just pouching at you, and those tribal percussions digging deeper and deeper, the emphasis is completely on the beats, and why wouldn't it be as the title suggest. It’ll make you feel as though you were out in the wild forest of Africa.
