Tony Thomas - Drumatikal

  • Tony Thomas is one of the most prolific producers on the house music scene today having put out an impressive catalogue of releases over the years . This one comes in a three track package from Carl Cox's 23rd Century records. First up is Drumatikal which instantly is recognisable as classic Thomas style with all the percussive business that we expect. While the constant energetic rhythms keep the pressure at boiling point choppy vocal cuts keep us in suspense as to what will come next, focusing on the tribal flavour or adding delayed sounds to carry the groove . Cave Boy comes next and is focused on cut up and reversed vocals while a tribal flavor keeps the flow . Added to that is quite a voluptuous bassline and tweaked fx sounds which make it an ideal track to briefly drop it in and out of a set . Anything more and it becomes cumbersome . Bringing up the rear is Down to business which has a similar sound to Thomas' Moxi records project yet layered ontop is a mish mash of authoritive vocal cuts , swirling pads that add a haunting undertone. Thomas has been busy of late expolring new layers within his music. Drumatikal is a reflection of that.
