  • Since he moved from LA to New York, DJ SWISHA has been one of Brooklyn's best-kept secrets. Covering the bases of juke, ghetto house, club and techno, his recent EP series, The DJ Pack, is his most self-aware offering to the (virtual?) dance floor. The madness continues with his second volume, The DJ Pack Vol. 2. The record consists mostly of edits. DJ SWISHA takes us all the way back with "Hype Funk loop," an edit of Antonio's 1998 UKG classic, "Hyperfunk." The springy hand drums and Jersey club swing of "Shake N Bounce" are classic SWISHA, as are the crisp hi-hats and ricocheting kick of "Boca Raton," a juke track arranged from the soulful vocals of a SpaceGhostPurrp track. Sections of the record are intoxicatingly smooth, like the deep house of "U Kno Tha Vibes," and the pitched-up jungle rendition of DJ Screw's "Mind Went Blank," which seems to end too quickly every time. With the variety contained in these brief 18 minutes, this is a banging record all-too reminiscent of a New York club night.
