  • DJ Trystero's internet presence is pretty low-key (he doesn't even have a SoundCloud page). The Tokyo artist's debut EP on The Trilogy Tapes is a head-turner, also in a low-key way. High Speed Wind has a smudged, low-pass filter feel not unlike some of the earliest releases on Mood Hut, with a hint of Actress thrown in. Across six bewitching tracks, a picture emerges of an artist who trades in subtle, droning beats full of deceptive detail. When Trystero makes dance music, it's ambling and leisurely, as strange melodies float by drum patterns that feel like rickety scaffolding on the verge of collapse. But the best meat on this release is the kind stuck to the bones: the shorter tracks hidden between all the lo-fi house. Best of all is number two, "洞窟" (or "Cave"), whose pendulous melodies drift along punctuated by squiggly sound effects, like something coughed up by an aged machine. It's odd and a little esoteric, but the weirdness is what makes it so captivating.
