Breach - Turtle Dance

  • Delicate house and techno for lazy afternoons.

  • Breach, whose presence on Twitter once made him DJs Complaining's favourite target, seems to be in a better mood these days. That's based on the sound of his latest EP, at least. Turtle Dance's title track is the dance music equivalent to relaxing on the beach, a synthy downtempo workout best paired with a lazy afternoon in the sun. The chords are breezy and the groove moves like feet through sand, bolstered by occasional injections of bass. It's the kind of track you find on the B-side of some forgotten '90s UK techno record, pairing the calm of Balearic with the cosmic sound of synthesisers. "S.O.S.T" is more energetic. It packs a similar mood to this year's most famous disco-tinged house track, Krystal Klear's "Neutron Dance," but the energy doesn't get as high. This one's more about the groove, a sauntering pump that's paired with swirling melodies and a fat bassline. It's a great sound for Breach, an artist who's tried his hand at a range of styles but never quite found one of his own. That might change with a few more EPs like Turtle Dance.
