Muzo - The Mack / Fokker Dude (2nd Opinion)

  • Muzo is perhaps a name many might be familiar with, mainly due to the fact that the last year have seen busy times for the producer as he tries to make his mark on the production scene. Well he returns, this time to Segment Recordings, with two original productions of his own that aim to continue the good form he has shown of late. First up is The Mack, and it displays the trademark sounds we have come to expect from Muzo. Dark tribal drums build the track for the first few minutes until the track hits a solid break midway, seeing warm pads smother the airwaves alongside a spoken male vocal. The beats come back in, but it must be said with a lack of conviction, as the track unfortunately fails in delivering any real cutting edge. Fokker Dude fortunately has many good elements that give the track a good purpose. Solid beats and a subtle deep baseline build and drive the track from the word go, and little intricate melodies also help to give the production some sort of cutting edge, the edge that the a-side severely lacks. Good melodic moments make this a more uplifting track then the somewhat dark a-side. A release saved thankfully by the b-side, a track that has plenty of drive and energy, as well as some melodic moments that save the day.
