- Next up on the warhorse Plastic Fantastic imprint is a release by Sharon Avilhak and Doron Elimelech, an Israeli duo by the name of Groovemates. They deliver two original productions here, following up productions such as ‘Natural Sounds’ which featured on Sander Kleinenberg’s ‘Renaissance’.
First up is Next Level, a production that has quite a unique flavour. It is a funky almost psychedelic set of guitar hooks that give the track its originality, but not only is it the guitar riffs on their own, it is the fact that they are combined quite smoothly alongside some deep and dark beats. The track on the whole is quite chunky, and somewhat tribal, but combined with the funky elements of the guitar it doesn’t appear as intense as it could have been. A very interesting track to say the least, but more importantly, it works very well.
On the flip is One Night More. No funky guitar here, rather the track is another intense deep and dark affair. Deep rumbling baselines combined with twisted effects and swirling synths soon meet a filtered vocal line to create a dirty peak time production. Some very nice sounds really do make this track appealing, and the nice baselines really do give it a good tough edge.
A pretty interesting release here on Plastic Fantastic, and well worth a look for both sides.
