Pole Folder feat. Sandra Ferretti – Protected (Remixes)

  • The second disc of Protected by Pole Folder feat. Sandra Ferretti sees Fretwell and MAS Collective take on remix duties to complete this double disc release on Mo-Do, a release that has already impressed with the Original mix and a Madoka remix. Fretwell has been in great from in the last year or so with some great release on Bedrock, and MAS Collective you may remember set the Shinichi label alight with their classic mixes of ‘In My Mind’. And the MAS Collective Black Curtain Dub continues their fine form with another very solid remix. The smooth warm atmosphere is set with the trademark beats of MAS as well as the subtle groove baseline. The track builds with minimal snippets of the vocal as well as a cavalcade of effects, and lifts another notch when the original string pattern is introduced into the mix. There is a lengthy breakdown deep in, which sees a smooth baseline go head to head with the vocal, and the track concludes well enough with the beats and driving low end sounds winding the production down to a halt. In regards to setting a mood, not many do it better then Fretwell, who yet again doesn’t disappoint on the flipside of this release. Crisp broken beats intertwine deliciously with the string pattern of the original as well as beautifully effected vocal hooks. This is also the only remix that uses the delicious melody that is used late in the Original, and it works sublimely well, especially in the massive breakdown used early on in the piece. The beats come back in, and I must stress how much I love the beat structure of Fretwell’s work, especially in this remix, and it was a great choice to use him for remix duties as his style fits this release like a glove. A very good set of remixes here on disc two, making this a very strong release on the whole. A smooth 4/4 number on the a-side is complimented quite well with an atmospheric broken beat journey on the flip. Variety definitely is the spice of life!
