Jeff Bennett - Discoveries EP

  • EQ Grey Ltd makes a fantastic move for the second release in employing the services of class producer, Jeff Bennett. He delivers two delicious productions for those that love their deep warm melodic tech house. With his brilliant ‘Swapping’ being a highlight of 2003, these two tracks from this Discoveries EP are sure to impress those that thought highly of ‘Swapping’. On the a-side is the delightful Raindance. The track builds and flows nicely for the first half with a smooth rolling baseline that intertwines nicely with clattering drums and a bubbly melodic pattern. The breakdown deep into the track has a brilliant summer feel to it with and it is a great prelude to the blasphemy of drums that come back into the track with great venom. You will definitely like this track! Undivided Cycles on the flip is just as impressive. The baseline is nice and chunky while smooth pads loop delicately as the track builds. Bennett’s insightful drum patterns are again the highlight as are the nice humming pads and atmospheric elements that feature in the breakdowns and throughout. This is a great release from the Melbourne based label, and a release that has impressed me much more then its first one. Definitely a two tracker that will get this new sub label off and running.
