Tony Estrada - Patterns

  • New Orleans based DJ/Producer Tony Estrada has been on a roll as of late. His initial release for Distraekt Recordings, “Close”, garnered acclaim from around the world and got heavy rotation from many of the globe’s top jocks. His second signed production, entitled “Patterns”, marks the 10th release for New York based Oval Records. The record features three versions of the track, starting off on the A-side with the Corbett & Troia mix. The remix begins by focusing on the tribal aspects of the original, taking away the darker edge in favor of Iberican sounds. The vocal is still present, although it’s been slightly changed. Meanwhile, the bass line enters, various effects weave in and out of the forefront, and the tribal dance is in full effect. The Corbett and Troia rework creates a nice blend of the original’s elements, yet manages to take the track into a different direction that is equally exciting. Up next is the Derek Wright mix, another tribal workout – yet with a different conga line than the first A-side remix. It also uses a lot less of the vocal, creating a distinct vibe that differentiates it from the other two versions on the record. The B-side showcases Estrada’s original version. “Patterns” is a peak time progressive stormer, full of energetic bass lines, nasty synth lines, and a haunting, drugged-up female vocal. Tribal drums add the final layer as the track progresses, leading to a breakdown that barely gives the dance floor time to cool off before the beats return and the track is back in full force. “Patterns” marks the second step in what promises to be a long term career in the production room for Tony Estrada. For those who like it dark, there is no need to look any further
