Disco Cuatro - CVLT Edits

  • After pressing delays in 2011 nearly forced Discos Capablanca to fold, its owner, Capablanca, managed to resuscitate the vinyl-only, limited-run imprint late last year. Minneapolis trio Food Pyramid offered a symphonic, beatless release, and now Lisbon producer CVLT steps up with a pair of disparate jams. "Desperate Flamingo" is an overexcited slice of Latin-infused house that positions frenetic synths over a secure beat. Interludes of live drumming and flamenco give the track a fluorescent glow. It may be one of the most weird and wonderful records you'll hear this year. "Mojo Working" adopts a more leisurely pace, with mellifluous acoustic guitar riffs and a growling electro-funk line forming a groovy platform from which to showcase the lead vocalist's dulcet tones. Adapted from a Muddy Waters original, this goes some way to explaining why both sides sound just as good at 33rpm as they do on their intended 45.
