- In a little over 12 months, Leeds label FINA has already managed to notch up five releases, loosely operating in a niche somewhere between the 2020 Vision imprint to which it is related and Jimpster's ever-reliable Freerange. For the sixth outing, though, it takes a left turn into disco town, calling on the services of local duo MAM. Made up of Miguel Campbell (the man behind the staggeringly simple and successful "Something Special" hit on Hot Creations late last year) and Matt Hughes, each of the four tracks they cook up here deals in a cosmic Crazy P funk and no small amount of razzle-dazzle.
"Modern Heat" is vividly coloured, with plenty of darting glissando melodies. They shoot in various directions as a mid-tempo house kick stomps pertly underneath, while "Crushed Ice" slows things down, lounges by a pool and swings that bit deeper (the muted remix even more so). The sweet and sugary vibes continue on "Sunset Funk" so that once it's done, you're just about rushing your tits off on the stuff.
