Scram - SCRAM01

  • An air of mystery surrounds Scram, a new strictly limited offshoot of Vienna electro authority Trust: aside from the involvement of Patrick Pulsinger, who lends his name to the rework found on the A-side, it's not clear who is or isn't Scram. Given the austere, analog-sounding production that brings the electro-tinged techno on offer here to life (on vinyl only, it should be noted), one can only assume anonymity is all part of the plan. Whoever's responsible for "Storm Ultra Violet," though, certainly knows what they're doing: both the original and Pulsinger's version are deeply accomplished bangers you wouldn't mistake for the work of an amateur. While there's a darkness to both sides, there's nothing bleak about "Storm Ultra Violet": Scram's strings might vamp in a minor key, but there's a wealth of infectious energy in their impatient, perfectly tuned drums. Though the A-side belongs to Pulsinger, there's hardly a discernible difference between the two versions, although the bonus beats accompanying the original mix on the B-side provide a welcome peak into Scream's impeccable drum programming. Those who know their way around Detroit techno probably aren't starving for music like this, but it's hard to argue with tunes this confidently floor-ready and well made.
