Dro Carey - Candy Red

  • Over the past year Dro Carey has been inducing intrigue and interest for his online soundscapes and video creations from the likes of renowned Mo Wax designer and Trilogy Tapes label boss Will Bankhead to audio futurist Ikonika. Prior to putting out a release by the genre-defying beat maker on her own Hum & Buzz imprint, Ikonika initially picked up on the artist via a lo-fi music video he had made for Girl Unit's "Shade On." The A-side to his Hum & Buzz release, "Candy Red," continues that hazy and tripped-out aesthetic of R&B, footwork and old school 808 echoes. Comparable in some ways to Hype Williams productions due to the mix of nostalgic chopped and looped samples with a fuzzy VHS finish, "Candy Red" carries more purpose and direction than "Hungry Horse," where pitched up and looped female vocals add a fragile surrealism to the haunting angst-ridden footwork drum patterns and ethereal stabs.
