16B - Doubt

  • 16B’s recent album for Hooj showed exactly how good a talent this man is. It showcased some killer productions such as ‘Inbetween Your Choice’ and ‘Escape’, and one such production that featured on that album appears as a single, that track being ‘Doubt’ Omid’s Original Vocal Mix is on the a-side to disc one as expected. The typical smooth beats of 16B’s production soon fill the air, with the vocals of Stephan taking control early on. Very smooth and subtle strings remain throughout as does the trademark baselines of Omid’s productions. One can’t help but feel that this is one of his weakest productions from the album; however, seeing as his album is simply brilliant, it still remains a nice outing from 16B. Flatline’s Viva La Revolution Mix is on the flip, and it gives the original a tempo boost. It’s quite a funky outing using a deep base and funky overtones. Snippets of the vocals are used, as well as effected vocal lines. Overall its sure to move people on the dancefloor. In form Danmass are on remix duties for the outer a-side of disc two. They provide a deeper outlook to this vocal tune, keeping the vocal pretty much intact, as well as retro like high pitched baseline. Combine this with eerie sounds that surround the track for the most part and Danmass have turned in a fun and lively remix. Brooks’ Slickquickfix Mix is in the inner a-side and maintains a deep electro vibe. Again a nice use of eerie effects combined with a synthy melody and effected vocals make this another light and welcome addition to the remix party. Omid’s Original Instrumental is on the flip side on disc two and obviously focuses on the musical elements with the omission of Stephan’s vocals. The deep baselines and intricate drum patterns gain high importance in this mix, and a far greater appreciation of Omid’s musical talents are gained. A great addition for those who may dislike the vocals of the original. All in all, this may not have the appeal of ‘Inbetween Your Choice’ or ‘De-org Song’, but it’s a smooth production by Omid nevertheless. Vocalphiles be sure to check this out.
