Rich NxT - Bristle EP

  • Fuse have been running their Sunday parties in Blighty's capital for the last two years or so. It's the sound of those parties, where the likes of Loco Dice, Geddes and Davide Squillace have all headlined in the past, that's now being put down on their label. Rich NxT is one of a number of local residents, and he presents a collection of more-than-just-functional tech house here by hewing out clear and engaging features. The brooding title track sits fittingly above the rest, constructed spaciously from a few charismatic elements. It crawls along, with a crispy snare being the only thing which surfaces above a mire of inexorable bass and strange wormlike creatures. The repeated phrase "look at everyone" takes on its full significance at a later stage, when orchestras swell in titanic glory, apparently opening a view over a huge expanse of people. "Beat" and "Seize" are loopier, assembled neatly out of odds and ends from the sample bin. They're quite a lot more light-hearted; the effervescent sounds have a gently unhinged slapstick, but with seriously rooted foundations, particularly "Beat." It's an attitude that, like the Fuse parties themselves, would port well from darkened rooms in London to beach clubs in Ibiza.
