Lee Coombs - Perfecto Breaks

  • Share
  • Lee Coombs - one of the names usually associated with tribal breaks and acid house - has represented for the breaks scene once again with a mix for Perfecto Records, after the success of his Future Sound Of Retro on Fingerlickin' in 2002. Usually associated with house music in all forms, Perfecto has gone the way of Bedrock and released a breaks mix CD and it seems to bridge the gap between house and breaks, giving the listener a battering of thumping tribal breakbeats on tunes such as Two men On A Trip - his current hit alongside Meat Katie, moving over to dirty house/breaks with Soul Of Man's Dirty Waltzer which gets a slight re-working and crossing over to acid house with his Tekno Meltdown and his reworking of Joey Beltram's Energy Flash. Speaking of reworkings, what makes this CD even more Coombsy is the inclusion of his remixes and reworkings of a wide variety of tunes, starting off the whole CD with his electro-tinged version of Lamb's Sweet, his bass line workout of Moby's I Feel The Drum's and the Technotronic sampling Jam The Mace by House Syndicate. What is interesting to note is that a lot of these remixes and re-workings aren't even credited on the CD cover or sleeve. This CD seems to get better with each listen and Santos' guitar-fueled No Ticket No Run is definitely growing more on me everytime I hear it. Look out for a Krafty Kuts remix coming out soon. Even slicker is the arab-esque beats and overtones of his remix of Danny Sullivan's Snake Charmer. For those who were after more of that Lee Coombs sound and have been after a fix of it since Future Sound should look no further and vinyl junkies out there can grab Lamb's Sweet and House Syndicate's Jam The Mace on the limited edition 12".
