Unknown Artist - Kill / You Get Over

  • As DJ Harvey esteemed a few months ago on Beats in Space, Eric Duncan makes the best edits out there. Harvey then dropped a recent reworking of Dolly Parton's "Potential New Boyfriend" to prove the point. Whether he's stretching TK Disco obscurities to ecstatic lengths of working Boney M's kinda corny historical disco track "Ma Baker" to where only the menacing line of "Born to hang/ They charged with blazing guns" remains, Duncan can take almost anything and make the floorboards catch fire. Much like his "Ma Bakes" edit, "Kill" melds the fun and funky with some darker sentiment. A clopping beat skyrockets up to arcing horn lines, orchestral stabs and a choir hissing "Kill! Kill! Kill!" That they then shout "Take me higher! Wooooo!" shoots it into the stratosphere. Devastating. With the twitchy and quick synth squiggles that open "You Get Over," one might think they're getting an acid rework from the man, only to have it flower into yet another sweet, pumping disco track (lots of handclaps, coked-out guitar picking and synth washes in the back) replete with diva vocals urging you to "get up and get down" that make it a killer cut as well.
