- Room 10 are back on Metroline vinyl with a funk-laden four tracker. This is typical Metroline vinyl; stripped, hypnotic groovers with a slight Latin tinge that work floors well. Nothing that's smashing ground, but no nasty surprises either.
The staples are smooth and crisp. Solid basslines slide you through these left-field house grooves, while some quirks lift the vibe of this EP out of the "warm up" stage and closer to peak night moments. "Los Gritos," the title track, has pace and heavy kicks, until the focus is shifted to the metallic, mechanical stabs which add some robotic funk to the flow. The sharp edges have been smoothed out here with atmospheric pads that lay a nice balance to the vibe. There are no big ideas here, but the elements gel and are well-executed. "Maxwell" holds a nice elastic groove, it's deep but not dark with Italian spoken vocals adding a slight edge. As "Maxwell" builds, though, the elements don't work to intensify so much as to confuse—and it's not clear what the track is trying to achieve.
Horacio's remix is a completely different affair. It doesn't really hold any resemblance to the original, instead opting for a classic Strictly Rhythm/Nervous house-inspired sound. The duo have clearly been digging in the crates for things like Track Masters' "Come On, Do Anything." The result is nice, if a little cluttered, with synths, pads, voices and samples giving the track a loose and live feel that at times seem to be trying too hard. "Cumple," meanwhile, takes the vibe back to the root of this EP; with a modern percussion set forming a tight groove that drives through at an unhurried pace—giving the dancer plenty of angels to reach for.
