- When deciding who to pursue to remix one of their highest-selling acts of recent vintage, Kompakt did the obvious thing: Pair up a duo that is so good at tweaking tracks that they've released entire compilations devoted to the craft (Wighnomy Brothers) and one of the most celebrated producers of 2008 (The Mole). Luckily, this match made in heaven sounds like they must've drawn it up on paper. The Brothers turn in a mix that doesn't sacrifice one iota of the anthemic quality of Gui Boratto's "No Turning Back," while keeping enough sonic left turns to keep the heads happy as well. (Something the original mix certainly couldn't claim, itself a shameless attempt at the sort of heights reached by Chromaphobia's "Beautiful Life.")
Meanwhile, The Mole's predictably more minimal (in sound, not style) is a loop bonanza, doing the same thing that he often does for soul and funk music in his original productions. Boratto's hyper-melodic synth lines are a boon, giving the proceedings a percolating feel similar to classic Moroder or Cowley arpeggiations while he experiments elsewhere with various elements to move things resolutely forward. The Mole could've easily lost the vocals, which muddy things, but overall it's exactly what you'd expect. And, in this case, that's not a bad thing at all.
