DadaBleep - Ghipwe / Enter The Echo Remixes

  • Fear of Flying is a relatively new UK label, and while it might not garner the column inches of the likes of Leftroom or Crosstown Rebels, it’s steadily building a reputation for reliable cuts that have a real potential to revive flagging dancefloors. Release number seven on FOF is three remixes of an earlier outing on the label, of which the Plasmik remix is the pick of the bunch. The German duo’s reinterpretation of 'Ghipwe' is a little more menacing and full-on than we've come to expect from them lately, and while it’s not quite the track to turn the dry ice on to, it has a moody little groove and a great atmosphere constructed with subtle and skillful pitch manipulations as well as an implicit understanding of dancefloor dynamics. This could be a great bridging track, providing a perfect moment between the calm and the storm. The currently ubiquitous Andomat 3000 turns out a bouncy beast of a remix that while livelier than Plasmik's offering, lacks it's depth and warmth. It's good, but predictable. Finally Mark Henning's brother Tim Gregor, who has already recorded in his own name for the label, provides an in-house treatment of 'Enter the Echo', the second track from the original 12-inch. It's a much more laid-back affair than the 'Ghipwe' remixes, using organ stabs and a skippy drum beat to drive things along. Overall, this EP has a pleasing variety and a nice attention to detail. Each of the tracks could be slotted into the most discerning of selector's set, and that's not something you could say about most releases these days.
