Sascha Dive - DEep

  • Sascha Dive doesn't bother to give his tracks oblique titles. But then when you make music that's so quintessentially "deep house", there's probably no point. So, since you can't spell "Deep" without "EP", enter "DEep", Dive's new release on Zurich's Drumpoet Community label. First up on this two track EP is the Samuel Davis's ‘Deep4Life’ mix of the title track. As ever with the Deepvibes crew, it's a really basic groove, just a few elements arranged to create a really warm retro house groove. Even with so much German deepness doing the rounds, the diamond sharp house sounds on offer here are still a real breath of fresh air. ‘Annihilating Rhythms’ meanwhile is probably the hardest track Dive has done to date, with his vastly rough, brash drums the perfect foil to huge bass stabs and barely perceptible melodies. It's impeccably produced but never sterile or academic, and just anonymous enough to sit side by side with the best nightclub music. They say you have to be clever to play dumb. In Dive's case it seems you have to be clean to play dirty.
