- South America’s latest minimal export Ernesto Ferreyra returns with a follow up to last year’s excellent ‘Memoria Colectiva’ EP. Featuring a leaner sound that strips back the atmospheric flourishes of his previous release, this latest 12” exposes Ferreyra’s ability to craft productions with serious body moving potential.
The single’s A-side, 'The Last Shooter', wastes no time bringing the party. Allegedly an homage to the last drink of the night, the track centers precariously on a queasy synthline that wobbles back and forth like your wasted friend stumbling home at the end of the night. It’s an out and out killer. The tasteful hand percussion isn't quite the organic experimentalism of Villalobos and Luciano; instead it bangs relentlessly thoroughout, driving onward, pulling the audience along with it from peak to ecstatic peak.
On the flip, the curiously titled 'Fongtom' keeps things moving. Building from a wonderfully thick bassline, Ferreyra drops the beat and pulls out all the stops to create a serious peak hour’s party jam. Spliced vocal samples and a distinctly old school vibe weave their way into the rhythm from time to time, amping up the festive tone, but it’s the stunted little melodies he sprinkles on top that will make 'Fongtom' so ruthlessly effective on the dance floor.
With an exuberant, lighthearted approach, these are the sort of tracks that beg to get played out at sticky summer parties. With the season quickly drawing to a close, get this single on the decks, grab that bottle of Jager and roll on into the fall!
