DK7 - Killer (Remixes)

  • Jesper Dahlback and Mark O’Sullivan have been turning out cultured European house and electro as DK7 for a while now. Past releases have found their way onto mix comps by Michael Mayer and Valentino Kanzyani, and 'The Difference' [2002] in particular managed to shift far more copies than anyone ever imagined. Stockholm and Cork appear to have collided in the unlikeliest of fashions in DK7’s electro-du-jour spin on New Romanticism. 'Killer' from the album 'Disarmed' [2005] gets three remixes on this 12”, including a 2007 reworking from DK7 themselves. But it’s Lopazz from Get Physical who steals my vote with his well-crafted, deep outing built on tremoloed keys and murky beats. O'Sullivan’s disconnected vocals work very well in this setting – the track conjures up one of those lazy afternoons watching rain hit the windows. Understated yet with plenty of depth in its dark tones, Lopazz's effort is like valium oozing out from your speakers - nice. Young Tommy Four Seven from Brique Rogue steps up the tempo with a heavier affair that makes use of a rhythm familiar from a couple of last year’s big electro house tunes. Nowhere near as classy as the Lopazz version, there’s little to distinguish this from its many soundalikes, although sweatier club floors will hardly care – probably destined for a bit of peaktime action. Lastly, DK7’s rethink is cold, tough and straight from the icy terrain of Scandinavia. This has plenty in common with some of Harthouse’s output, a label on which Mark O'Sullivan is due to release shortly. Pounding slowly but relentlessly, there’s a couple of moments of recovery but the overall mood one of imminent doom. Another strong show from DK7, but this time it’s Lopazz for the win.
