- If Lars Sandberg felt much pressure trying to match his amazing Urbantorque debut of last year, ‘Blood’, it hasn’t shown. Under his Francois Dubois guise, the follow-up single, ‘I Try’ comes up trumps again.
Beginning with lush warmth and sultry vocals, the original grooves its way into a giant Rhodes keyboard acid-house riff that will transport you back to Manchester in ’89. It’s hugely uplifting while staying warm and bubbly, and is one of those handy records that can be dropped in the set of any genre and bring smiles to the dancefloor.
The remixes come from Nic Fanciulli and AN-2. Fanciulli takes his mix deep and techy, harnessing the warmth of the original while only using the piano riff sparingly, making it a nice record for a warm-up set. DJs like Fortier, Zabiela, and Mojo are already all over this one.
Russian producer AN-2 goes even deeper with his effort. The lounge bar is where this one belongs. It’s a smooth roller with funky slap bass and cut-up melodies, clearly endearing itself to plush-cushioned seating, dim lights, and cocktails.
This package is receiving a lot of hype, with DJ chart action, radio slots, and compilation inclusions. And why is that, you ask? Because it’s a damn fine release and another notch in the belt of Urbantorque.
