- Hastings born DJ, Danny Howells, has only received the recognition and praise that he deserves in the last year or so. Recent compilations such as Nocturnal Frequencies 2 and the 2nd installment of the Nubreed series, as well as the devastating sets he has delivered all around the world, has shown everyone why Danny is undoubtedly one of the best DJ’s in the world right now. Known as one of the ‘nicest’ DJ’s around, his magical talents on the decks are clearly evident in his newest compilation, Nocturnal Frequencies 3.
CD1 has a deeper and more tribal element to it, yet it flows ever so smoothly. Highlights include John Creamer & Stephane K’s “Wish You Were Here”, a flowing vocal track that is definitely one of the tracks of the year so far. The Lexicon Avenue Mix of Lisha’s “That’s Why I’m Here” is another soulful vocal record that makes your jaw hit the ground while “Free” by Third Movement is yet another highlight in a near perfect hour mix.
CD2 raises the tempo and crash-lands you in the more progressive territory of the Howeller’s repertoire. The mix starts with Danny’s very own production with Dick Trevor, “Kinkyfunk”, a solid intro into one of the mixes of the year. New Phunk Theory’s Dub of “Open Your Eyes” is simply breathtaking, and has that Danny Howells trademark sound stamped all over the record. The Brancaccio and Aisher mix of Trancender’s “Rock Music” is tear to the eye material as is Ashtrax reworking of “First” by Private Taste. Slam’s vocal hit “Lifetimes” polishes off the mix in sheer style and leaves you stunned as to the quality of this double CD compilation.
Quite simply, Nocturnal Frequencies 3 is one of the mixes of the year, and it is clear to see that Danny is one of the most in form DJ’s at the moment. This is a must purchase. Enough said.
