Stardiver/Superpitcher - Speicher 48

  • A strange feeling of deja vu here, with Kompakt faithfuls Aksel Schaufler (Superpitcher) and Jorg Burger (Stardiver aka The Modernist) reprising their back-to-back appearance on Speicher 35, only this time the results are wildly more successful. It's a case of opposites, with one set of pitches shared between them. Stardiver takes the treble, 'Another Moment of Silence' bursting forth with all the uncontained glee of a kid in a candy store. Sparkling arpeggios and blippity Matthew Jonson riffs dance around drums hitched way high, with strong hints of trance giddiness pleasantly tickling your sides. Totally unrestrained, its one reserved for enthusiastic audiences. Superpitcher meanwhile goes low and long - thirteen minutes long - with 'Superjam' squeezing every ounce of life from a deliciously basic chug. The drums pack the expected Speicher punch, grinding leisurely and seductively like Mathias Aguayo, while a Basic Channel backdrop hangs sparse dub and echo decorations around a mournful Superpitchian synth shudder. The duration may try the patience of all but the most misty-eyed of Kompakt devotees, but its bareness almost begs embellishment from crafty DJs. Fitting both in the same set however may result in schizophrenia.
