Stephan Bodzin - Kerosene

  • Herzblut is a new record label started by Stephan Bodzin as an outlet for his "seriously intense private material". He, along with his friends and studio partners Oliver Huntemann and Marc Romboy are the leaders of the self-proclaimed 'Neo–Trance' style, so it may not come as a surprise to find out the Bodzin, Huntemann, and also Romboy all have their roots firmly entrenched in trance. Bodzin is responsible for producing the seminal ‘90s cut ‘Escape’, under the moniker Kaycee, while Huntemann and Romboy have been members of the classic trance acts Humate and Marc Et Claude respectively. Over the last year, Bodzin has been churning out the releases for Systematic, as well as for the ever-consistent Get Physical label, yet has still found time to start Herzblut and produce two tracks for it's inaugural release, the double A-side ‘Kerosene/Cucuma’. ‘Kerosene’ is a dark subtle beast that blends a haunting trance melody into a growling bassline, the kind that makes you wince in pleasure when you hear it through a good soundsystem. In true Bodzin style, Kerosene is a definite builder, though it never hits a definitive peak. ‘Cucuma’ on the flip has a twisted and more narcotic feel to it than its counterpart, a rolling, clicking tune with tweeked and twisted melodies: absolutely perfect for that early morning set where you want to mess the crowd's heads up. I'm sure the intent of this release was not to be dynamite that explodes on the dancefloor; these are more slow-burning fires that grow into infernos. These subtle kinds of tracks are the kind that you hear and love, though unfortunately may leave you thinking to yourself ‘What was that track again?’ at the end of the night. However, if you are searching for a track to slip into a mix for some subtler moments without losing your momentum or crowd, look no further than these two.
