Jim Rivers - Restore EP

  • Fresh UK DJ/producer Jim Rivers makes his debut with his 'Restore' EP on Satoshi Tomiie’s Saw Recordings label. Already on the playlists of Pete Tong, Satoshi Tomiie, Sasha, Nick Warren and Paulo Mojo, this tune is building Rivers a name as a promising producer. With a minimal beat sugarcoated with a melodic progressive synth, 'Restore' is perfect for all prog DJs who want a bit of edge to their sound without drifting too far to sea. Ideal for the start of a set, 'Restore' combines a snappy bass, simple drum kick, bouncy electro beats and heavy progressive sounds. Dark and somber with a whimsical, echoed riff that gives it euphoria and energy, 'Restore' wont surprise your crowd, but will keep their bodies bouncing. On the flip, 'Future' has a dynamic electro-progressive sound ideal for mid-set motions on a smoke filled dancefloor. Rivers takes his already distinct trademarks and delivers another euphonious mix of progressive, this time with a techno edge. 'Future' commits to a distinct melodic theme evolving from high to low to high synths, backed by a catchy, punchy bassline and sold with an electro groove. This is a more robust sound, although I prefer 'Restore' for its fusion of deep melancholy bass and kinetic motifs. Although initially it did feel fairly predictable, the EP is a sound production that took some time to grow on me, but once it did I heard a bit more than I anticipated from this production novice.
