Aquasky - Time Up EP

  • The final EP to be taken from Aquasky's Teamplayers release is another double 12" comprised of 2 full length cuts from the album and 2 remixes provided by producers that the trio have dubbed as luminaries in the drum'n'bass and breakbeat scenes respectively. The EP kicks off with the drum'n'bass meets hard rock mash up of Time Up. A crunchy, head banging guitar riff kicks the proceedings off backed by a rocky half time beat and punk influenced synth line. On MC duties is Spyda who's previously known for his verse on Pendulum's "Tarantula" single. After a few quick vocal deliveries, the synth line and guitar trade melodies in a tug-o-war. Following this is another rock influenced tune, this time sitting on a breakbeat tip. What Can You Do? is a collaboration between Aquasky and label signees Backdraft with Spyda providing his throaty ragga tones on vocals. In a similar style to Roxiller, the tune kicks off with a trademark Backdraft breakbeat underpinned by a distorted guitar riff and siren-like synth stabs. Once Spyda's verse comes in, the guitars are swapped for a dark Reece bass line - maximum heaviness all the way through. On the remix side, Time Up gets a highly energetic drum'n'bass remix done courtesy of Simon "Bassline" Smith who lives up to his name and drops a melodic bassline and a massive room filling synth. Rounding things out for this release is TCR head-honcho, Rennie Pilgrem who lends a hand to remix Bring It On Down by Aquasky and the Drumattic Twins giving the electro-infused original a percussive 4 to the floor-ish beat. The b-boy electro synths and wicked bass drops are pretty much kept intact with Rennie cutting the phrasing up for variation.
