Stu Hirst - Cocooned

  • Since his first release on Steve Lawler's Harlem imprint, UK producer Stu Hirst has shone brightly with some dancefloor breaking twisted house sounds. Following his recent double header, 'The Floor/Plenty' on Plastic Fantastic, Hirst lets loose another bomb on the always enticing Fantastic House records. 'Cocooned' gets two takes, the first being the 'Vocal Mix', which from the off gets a solid groove with a tight blend of electroish patterns on top of rolling beats. A smattering of stuttery vocals then notch things up a level. A bassline is added, imitated by synth hooks lurking about underneath, intensifying as the beat drops into a broken rhythm, then out, while elements work up a sweat hitting off each other. Things are momentarily stripped down before powering ahead with the vocal fully developing over the busy vibe. On the flip side is a Dub Remix which strips out much of the seductive, sleazy vocal but retains all the flavour of the original. 'Cocooned' is one of Stu Hirst's best releases to date and guaranteed to whip up a froth on any dancefloor.
