  • Aquasky made their debut on seminal UK drum'n'bass label, Moving Shadow 10 years ago and to celebrate their 10th anniversary, the trio are preparing to release their 10th anniversary album, Teamplayers. The new album presents a unification in the breaks scene and sees them collaborate with breakbeat's biggest players such as Tayo and Freq Nasty. For the lead single, they've joined forces with Mr. tech-funk himself, Meat Katie and breakbeat kiddies (ha ha!) The Breakfastaz. Side A. Overneath with Meat Katie Overneath takes on a four to the floor house/electro beat and combines it with a dirty, squelchy bassline - a bassline with a melody that can get stuck in your head. The bassline is helped out by lots of wobbly acid sweeps, ear-drum piercing stabs and vocal stabs. It certainly follows the electro trend of squelchy acid noise ala Alter Ego etc. To be honest I wasn't really into this at first listen, but that bassline does get catchy and one certainly can't dismiss the damage caused on the dancefloor when it drops. Side AA. Good Sound with The Breakfastaz featuring Diane Charlemagne The flip is a Passenger records throwdown and delivers the breaks sound that we've come to expect from both Aquasky and The Breakfastaz. Opening up with a rolling breakbeat with lots of arpeggios thrown in, the tune leads into a vocal courtesy of Diane Charlemagne of Inner City Life fame - all hail The Empress! The first breakdown introduces a dark, sub-smashing bassline and is accompanied by a heavy breakbeat and an uplifting synth hook layered on top. Diane then gives it up for the underground as she sings "Oh you can't keep a good sound down! Down on the underground!"
