Headstrong ft. Tiff Lacey - Close Your Eyes

  • With the first four releases off of Matt Darey’s Darey Products coming virtually from the man himself, this latest sees the current radio hit from Headstrong with help from Tiff Lacey in Close Your Eyes. A-side comes from head honcho, Matt Darey (Mix) as he beefs up track, giving the cut more energy. A slightly different flavor than the usual trance songs that hits mainstream radio as there’s no horns that will deflate this balloon from flying; it’s uplifting without the cheese. With Tiff Lacey, helming the vocals for Headstrong, there may not be anyone more suited for the role as her voice has been an institute of the genre for years; her voice inescapable, as her ethereal cords bellow-out the chorus, you find there’s reason why this has been a hot property for trance addicts. Though there is one disappointment in Darey’s remix and that’s the clarity of the vocals. A bit muddy and soft, they lie in the mid-ground, not allowing the spotlight for them to be in the foreground instead. It diminishes the lyrics when the listener struggles, even a little bit to hear what Lacy is saying at points. Flip is the Original Club Mix by Headstrong himself. Less is more compared to Darey’s mix. Traditional strings sweep ashore as they bring Lacey’s vocals, Ambient-like in nature, there’s a celestial feel to the mix, ala Paul Van Dyk during his prime. Though it’s still nothing too far left than most of the other trance songs out today, or even yesterday, ‘Close Your Eye’s’ draws from its strength as Trance fans will be pleased to find that everything they enjoy about the sounds are here to end the summer with a bang. The release fits to what Darey Products has been about since its conception, and that is releasing summery, and anathematic pieces that showcases why Trance music has been one of the most dominate sounds in the club and festival since the end of the late ‘90s.
