  • Today Charles Schillings is one of the star DJs of the French house scene. An honorary Frenchman, Charles Schillings was born in Zaire in 1966 and after ten years of DJing he has played in some of the best known music clubs stretching far across Europe and the U.S. With more than an impressive track record, Charles has spun as a resident in some of the most prestigious clubs across the globe, New Yorks-lotus, Moscow's-chocolate, and the infamous Queen of Paris. Coming off the Pschent Label "Overground House" was on the french electro scene at the very beginning of 1994 and Pschent is now a major label supporting mainstream and underground acts alike. Charles Schillings passion for house music have had him play with the biggest names in dancemusic, Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier and entertained for the fashion world's elite. Producing catwalk shows for Karl Lagerfeld or playing the opening night party of the Louis Vuitton boutique on the Champ-Elysées, Charles creates an atmosphere that is French flavoured funk that captivates fans audiences worldwide. Schillings sixth release in the Overground House mix compilations brings his trademark sound of fresh french electronic, catwalk strutting, European disco, house music. Listning to the mix through my busted up old discman, I couldn't help but remember back to "99" when acts such as Cassius, Dimitri from Paris, and Bob Sinclar were at the peak of french house music and more filtered down tempo artists like Air and Larent Garnier were at the fore-front of the music seen. Five years on Charles still manages to give the same feeling through overground house and brings you back with some favourites like Plez - Can't Stop and Rythm Masters - House is Still a sound that goes round". Initiating the albums feel is the very french house track Love Vicissitude with squelchy synth and a smooth dancefloor beat make for a catchy opener.Flawless mixing brings out Charles talent for the catwalk with tracks like the theme - Lavish Habits and the Glimmer Twins v's Ray Mang UFO is coming. Drifting into the more listenable and dancefloor orientated @137 -Triangle orchestra, has the bassline and bongos that brings the funk up to the plate.Derrick L. Carters shh! - moves in a hard bassline and piano riffs synonymous with deephouse and cuts into Black Music a bang'n house track that's seen it's way onto many a compilation. Encapsulating funk, soul, house n breaks Fumi's -Straight No Filter - gives the mix a head nodding beat, soulful organ and some crazy bongos that get you bumpin n jiven. Slowing the pace but not the feel Lindstrom - limitations - has the electric groove and plucky guitar that makes way for Ralphs Myerz and the jack herren band's Casino - that definitely makes for a sunny day track. Charles's track spin it right- rides on the electronic clash, 80's guitar, thumping floor beats trip, makes for an interesting pick for the end of the CD.
