- London's Bas Ibellini has appeared on Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers' Tuskegee label once before, delivering their top-selling track, "That's Right," on last December's The Come Up Vol. 1. Consisting of little more than a nudging house groove and soulful vocal loop, "That's Right" was simple and primal. Friendship's title track, a collaboration with Canadian producer SLF, has the same potential with another uncomplicated mandate. The feel is more synthetic this time, but Ibellini's combination of relentless acid and Green Velvet-ish vocals will hit similar pleasure centres.
The other collab with SLF, "Elef Be," turns out to be nothing more than an overlong vehicle for a breakneck acid loop. It feels like some kind of warm-up or cool-down exercise, and adds little to the package. Ibellini also delivers two solo productions, with the luxuriant acid of "Happy Go Lucky" outshining "Start Don't Stop"'s spacey house plateaux.
