At first, the track's floating bass and surface glimmer make it feel low-key and relaxed, but thin percussive whirrs and a monstrously distorted vocal soon add an edge to the mix. "See You Soon" skillfully balances bubbling energy with louche atmosphere.
Though a DJ of long-standing renown, Perlon regular Margaret Dygas has regularly shied from the dance floor on her own productions. "Popular Religions," however, doesn't. Dygas punctures her thermal bass hum and steady 4/4 with off-key, seemingly randomized piano notes. Were 50Weapons not closing up shop, they could've done well to continue mining this simple, eerie strain of her work.
