Ed209 vs Quest - Blackhole/Swordpen

  • Hardcore Beats' latest 12" is a team up between two of breakbeat's hardest working producers and label owners - Wireframe's Ed209 and Cyberfunk's DJ Quest. Staying true to the Hardcore Beats mentaility of harder edged breakbeats, they've pulled out a couple of raging tear-out breakbeat monsters to frighten the horses. Side A. Blackhole Drum'n'bass fans will know of Bad Company's Planet Dust and be very familiar with it's monstrous bassline and dramatic build ups. Slow that down to around 138 bpms and you might get something close to Blackhole. A big badass bassline, rolling breakbeats, cleverly placed scratches and a sample from "Let Me Clear My Throat" make up the bulk of the tune, but it's the dramatic build up featuring a couple of bass lines going head to head with each other that gives it that Bad Company feel. Side AA. Swordpen The flipside has more of a Quest feel to it, thanks to that wobbly bassline he likes to use. One thing about Quest's basslines is that they tend to get stuck in your head (check out his Rat Sessions mix CD for more of his bassline workouts). Plenty of bassline action with this one featuring big bass drops (some parts even have a cinematic feel to them) and a male vocal sample reiterating that old saying "the pen is mightier than the sword". Overall this 12" offers dark, menacing breaks good for use in a hard edged breaks set. If dark breaks isn't quite your thing then look out for the upcoming Rat Records 12" featuring a remix by Breakspoll's Best New Act - Friendly - on a booty bass tip, the shizzle is funky bizznitches!
