Elad Magdasi - Finger Trip

  • Front Left Records aren't being coy about their club affinities: the name refers to that dance floor sweet spot, and if their first release is anything to go by, their rave spirit runs deep. Elad Magdasi is one of Berlin's newer faces, but he nevertheless sounds awash with old acid sentiment on Finger Trip, his first official 12-inch. The energy vibrates below his title track's surface like some angry wasp. Caustic gurgles build up in the rumbling techno stomper, but it's "Finger Trip"'s weird and warbling melody that really sticks with you. Matrixxman does a 180 with it, ditching the strange hook and ramping up the pace. His remix keeps the dusty feel alive with retro crashes amidst rusty hydraulics. The real acid descent begins on the flip. "No Ego" takes us on a serotonin-fueled trip down memory lane, through charged chords spiked with sci-fi nodes and blips, after which "Ah Seed" delivers the main course in rolling, laid back style. There's more of a blueish tone to the B-side, and it starts to sound like an Elad Magdasi trademark. It's a promising start from both him and the Front Left crew.
