  • Minimal house can't often be described as jacking, but the latest 12-inch on Funhaus is just that. The Berlin-based label's fourth release comes from Pandilla and VincentIulian, two little-known producers who supply one track each. Their offerings fall in line with the school of dubby Romanian house both artists clearly draw inspiration from, and are surprisingly energetic for such stripped-down material. Funhaus has released a relatively wide variety of music in a short span—covering numerous shades of deep house, minimal and even techno—all with an intelligent and trippy feel. But Abstrick / Data002 is the label's most playful outing yet. Anyone who's spent a few hours at Club Der Visionaere (a venue frequented by Funhaus founders Jacq and Pawel Pilak) will recognise the sound of Pandilla's "Abstrick." It's incredibly warm, driven by a heavy bassline and an organic-sounding snare that might as well be two bits of wood knocking together. "Data002" from VincentIulian is more full-bodied and versatile, complete with a splash of melody.
