ETI & The Waller Street Boys - Cosmic Cons

  • Cosmic Cons by ETI & The Waller Street Boys sees the 6th release for Sabotage Systems. The original is a nice groovy, bouncy tech-house number. It starts out with some good electro mid range sounds, great high end intricate swirling patterns and a medium kick. As the track moves along, a low growling bassline comes through, adding to the chugging nature of the record. The track continues to build with the low and mid range thickening in texture, with some very subtle strings being added. As the track continues to grow, a chopped up ‘Da Da’ vox is added. As the track reaches the end, everything is stripped away until just the growling low end electro sounds are present. Through the remaining dregs of the track comes are wailing chopped female vox that has been very heavily effected. Everything else falls away until it is just the vox as an accapella. This tune been played numerous times at Tyrant nights at Fabric, but Mr Lee Burridge, who as I am led to believe by Cass (the man behind Sabotage), was the man who actually gave him a copy of the record in the first place. ‘We were playing at Spundae in San Francisco’ says Cass, and he put the original on and the place just went ballistic when the bass dropped. I naturally plied him with Jack Daniels and pestered him until he gave me his copy. He’s nice like that.’ On the flip on remix duties is the very inform Paolo Mojo. Returning after the success of his ‘Back in the Day’ release, he once again delivers the goods. Paolo starts with a more intricate drum pattern and the ‘Da Da’ vox from word go. He also has layered other chopped up vox samples underneath that are not in the original. He uses subtle atmospheric high pitched wind sounds to great effect, which work perfectly with the intricacy of the track. There is a small initial breakdown, before it returns back into the same groovy manner. Paolo then uses a great key change in the midrange, which is then added to with a beautiful piano hook. This builds the track up into a happier, uplifting ending helping to put smiles on people’s faces. And so it has been another impressive release from Sabotage. Once again Paolo Mojo has proved that he really does not get the kudos that he deserves, by providing a quality remix and my favourite of the two versions. This is really quite simply yet more proof that Cass has done it again with his latest venture. Sabotage really is rocking
