  • Whereas Zero 7's debut album 'Simple Things' was sweet and vulnerable, their new single 'Home' finds them taking the same qualities from the album and adding a bit more body and conviction. As a result their sound is more assured, has more interesting things going on in the texture, and in Tina Dico adds a wonderfully varied set of vocal colours. The melody, too, is the strongest the duo have yet written. However it's in the Ben Watt remix where things really take off, as he brings out a nocturnal, Spanish-flavoured texture, wrapping the vocals up in a languid, warm sound. Not only that, he complements the melody perfectly, making more sense of its unusual rhythm. One of the best deep house mixes you'll hear this year, I'm prepared to bet! The Stereolab mix is a bit more bonkers, changing direction rapidly between funky breaks, more Rhodes-heavy interludes and more chilled passages - frustrating in a sense but making a bit more sense with each listen!
